Delhi won the rights to host the games in November 2003, soundly defeating the Canadian city of Hamilton. The 2010 Games will feature 16 sports; Archery, Aquatics, Athletics, Badminton, Boxing, Cycling, Gymnastics, Hockey, Lawn Bowls, Netball, Rugby 7’s, Shooting, Squash, Table Tennis, Tennis, Weightlifting and Wrestling. In addition 15 events across 4 para-sports; Athletics, Swimming, Power Lifting and Table Tennis will also be contested, for elite athletes with a disability.
Lawn Bowls matches will be held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Sports Complex, which also hosts the Opening and Closing Ceremonies and the Athletics and Weightlifting events. The Lawn Bowls venue seats 2,110 spectators, with 4 synthetic greens. Each day of the Games will see 3 sessions of Lawn Bowls being played.
