exchange rate £1 = HKD14. ATMs can be found
almost everywhere and some HSBC "Electronic
Money" machines provide 24-hour cash withdrawal
(HK$) facilities for Visa, Maestro and MasterCard

Health
You are advised to consult your GP or travel
health clinic for up-to-date requirements.
Hong Kong has a wide range of medical services
and facilities of a high standard. Private
hospitals will insist on confirmation of insurance
cover, guarantee of payment or an up-front
deposit before admitting patients. Outbreaks
of the mosquito-borne illnesses dengue fever
and Japanese encephalitis occur from time
to time. We recommend you take measures to
avoid mosquito bites, including using insect
repellent. |

| |
Language
English and Chinese are Hong Kong's two official
languages. The Cantonese dialect is the most
commonly spoken language in the territory,
though English is the language of the business
and service industries; hotel employees, many
urban Hong Kong residents, most young people
and shop and service personnel understand
and speak it to some degree. |
