Due to popular demand we returned to South Africa in February, this time taking in the Drakensburg followed by Durban and then down to the very popular Cape Town, before having some R&R at the spectacular Victoria Falls in Zambia.

We departed UK on a cold winters evening from London on our Virgin Atlantic flight to Johannesburg,  Our coats and jumpers were not need until we returned as we hit the South Africa summer full on, as we made our way through to the Drakensburg Mountains and arrived at the  Nest hotel,  our home for the 4 days, this purpose built bowls and holiday venue, is ideal to pass the days away, with matches against the local Bowls Clubs and a friendly roll up (won by our drivers team), made this a perfect start to the tour.

Whilst in the Drakensburg we took the opportunity to visit the Zulu battlefields of Isandlwana & Rorke’s Drift, a very moving experience for us all as the battlefields was brought to life by our local tour guide. A long day, but a worthwhile day which left you wanting more!
On the way to Durban, we took the opportunity to stop at the Tala Game Reserve and the valley of the hills, and it wasn’t longer before the dancing and singing started with the locals. Our next stop was the wonderful Umhlanga rocks district, a great choice with the gateway complex right on our door stop. The first class bowls fixtures at two private clubs in the heart of Durban were very challenging, not only on the greens, but the high temperatures took it’s tool on the more mature players.

On arrival into Cape Town we checked into, the President’s our favourite Hotel and once again enjoyed the laid back lifestyle and pleasant evening climate. We were joined by our prize draw winners Robert & Janet Griffiths from Wales and enjoyed our bowls matches under the South Arica sun, but the highlight for the group, was a visit to Township of Fisantekraal and the many community projects that have been funded by visiting sports teams and Brothers Sports Tours, a day to remember.

This time in Africa, we took the opportunity to visit one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World, the mightily Victoria Falls (“The smoke that Thunders”) in Livingstone, Zambia and after a short walk to the falls with our guide Mosses and Hope, we descended into the falls and was blessed by the raging waters of the Zambezi River, but this wasn’t enough for a few David Livingstone look a likes , who decided to take a helicopter flight over the falls before joining the group for a sunset cruise onboard the Africa Queen.
A perfect way to end our second tour of Africa!
